Portrait of the person

YVES NGABU, 32, Professional Boxer

For the first time, I realized what I truly wanted to achieve

When professional boxer Yves Ngabu came in for his first Mental Coaching session, he was already a promising fighter. At the time, he was the Belgian heavyweight champion.

I had seen footage of him and noticed a lack of self-respect in his gaze. His movements showed uncertainty, and he lacked confidence despite his strong performances. My conclusion? He was capable of much more.

Yves himself was not yet familiar with Mental Coaching, but he was open to new insights and learning. In the ring, he was an incredibly strong and extremely fast fighter — someone who could knock out the French heavyweight champion in the very first round. Outside the ring, he was calm, kind, and humble.

Why was he performing below his true potential?

The reason people perform below their potential always comes down to their thinking.

I first taught Yves how thoughts impact the body. He needed to physically feel the difference between thinking and not thinking.

After that, we worked on identifying thought patterns from his past that were holding him back as an adult. These prevented him from fully focusing, recognizing his own value, and truly being himself. If you don’t see your own value, you can’t estimate how far you can go.

In a third phase, I created a direct link to the world top level and shifted his thinking and habits in that direction. He learned to associate himself with the world’s best and to take real steps toward that level.

Yves met David in 2017

David has taught me to become more aware of my thoughts, to dare to look deep within myself, and to bring out the best in me.

Associating with the best — why not?

Through intensive concentration exercises, Yves was able to consciously measure himself against the world’s best. He experienced his true value and realized he was already much better and stronger than he initially thought.

Today, Yves is close to the world top 10. Our next goal is to become number one — world champion.

We still train together regularly — either in England, where he lives, online, or in Belgium when he’s back in the country. I support him mentally for his fights, as well as in his personal and business life.
